Abstract

Objectives: This case study examined the use of Rhee Dongshik¡¯s Taopsychotherapy approach to resolve a client¡¯s continuing emotional conflicts resulting from a childhood experience of an extramarital affair.
Methods: According to Dongshik¡¯s model, clients must grasp and then free themselves of the grip of their nuclear feelings, which can dominate their thoughts and behaviors. In keeping with the Taopsychotherapy approach, the therapist met 8 times with the client for 90-minute sessions.
Results: The therapist assisted the subject in understanding and accepting that her conflict was occurring because her nuclear feelings were dominated by her reactions to the affair.
Conclusions: Taopsychotherapy allows clients to change nuclear feelings through the healing process of therapeutic empathy.
